I recently dropped 9 hundy for a total rib relay and rebrown. I figured the gun itself was well worth putting that kind of money into. The gunmaker I chose to do the job was at one time a double gun barrel specialist and has alot of experience in laying ribs, barrel regulating, etc. I knew he'd do the job right and the barrels would be "better than new" when he was finished with them. I probably would not have dropped that kinda coin on a mid to low quality gun.

I've had a gunsmith reattached slightly loosened ribs like Chuck describes, it was a fix that was appropriate for the grade of gun IMO. That job cost me about $300 total and included the reblue. I would not have a gunsmith do a total strip and relay ribs on a shooter grade NID, Sterlingworth, etc. Just not worth the money unless the gun has some sentimental value.
