This is the response I got from C&H

August 24th 2008

Dear Mr Opacak

Shotgun S/N 10887 refs: 41/1P; 144/2P; 223/3P.

The index to our archives shows that this gun was completed on 6th April 1881. It also shows that there are full original records on this gun in the archive section for that year. There is also an entry in the 1896 archive.

Our service is to access the antique books, extract all the details and print them out on a Certificate of Origin bearing your own name as the current owner. The information includes original measurements, weights, first owner, price paid and other details. The Certificate is very good provenance to have on a C&H gun.

If you would like this service then please send a note giving your full address and the Serial Number again. Also tell us how you would like your name quoted –e.g. middle initial? middle name? and also title.

We presume from the domain name that you are in Canada so include in the envelope a Canadian check for 88 CAD which is the cost of the service. We will respond within two weeks. We do not take card numbers as payment.

We look forward to your order.

Regards from Cogswell & Harrison
