Dan recently acquired another S-Man, this one however is not a 1903 Springfield, but a 1905 Ross. Here are some pictures.

the bottom of the grip, compared with another S-Man.

Anybody recognize this butt plate?

Actually, Fred found this Ross for sale and the more I looked at it I finally decided I should have it to go with the '03 S-men rifles. The buttplate is unique and very large for a rifle, I'm guessing it is from a shotgun but I have never seen one like it before, does anyone recognize it? The figures on the BP seem to be cast into the plate and not cut into it.

I assume the buttplate is metal. That pattern is similar [not an exact copy] to many vintage Belgian buttplates on shotguns. Those are not metal, though.

I wish my 1905 looked like that.

Yes, the BP is steel or at least iron. It's 1 3/4" x 5 1/2".
