I was searching for EM Reilly ads and ran across one in this book. It is about a British Gentleman hunting in BC in the 1880's. It is amazing in its observations on BC at the time. This is a long way from my native Florida and Alabama...but My son lives in Portland, is married to a girl from Seattle and has spent many years in the wilderness of the Cascades and on up to Alaska...and the observations about hunting and the general countryside and society is worth a read. Both can be read on-line.
Three Years Hunting and Trapping in the America and the Great North West, by J. Turner-Turner
https://www.scribd.com/document/94338510...North-West-1888He comes across as a "D**K' - posting this quote - but then that was the nature of society back then...I've read maybe 120 books on British travelers in India and Afghanistan and Iran in the 1800's...as the century advanced they became progressively more arrogant. But it was what it was......They ran the world at the time.
Then I ran across a second book and skimmed it cover to cover..it is even better in describing the area and the times in Victoria and British Columbia in the 1880's - what an incredibly articulate description of life, hunting, guns and society at the time. Our Canadian and NW USA members might enjoy these books.
