anybody have any idea at all of the legal ramifications of shipping a mauser rifle GI stock and hardware to Poland from the US? what sort of bizarre export regulations i'd run afoul of? a buyer on ebay is wanting a WZ-29 Polish stock/hardware set i have and while logically all i see is a piece of wood and some metal bits, i have sense enough to know authority figures could see something else entirely.

thanks

contact US Customs, US State Dept. USPS. They can fill you in. Thats a strange area. Some will say any gunparts need export permit, others will be more specific in requirments. I dont do it. I have been asked a lot for barrels and Mauser parts. not worth the hassle.

"not worth the hassle". i think i agree. tried USPS site and came up with abt $38 but it didn't allow for the length of package. UPS i had to dig up a zip code for Warsaw just to get anything out of their site and came up $238. i'd love to help the guy out but it's just way too risky.

thanks

Here's the USPS conditions for mailing to Poland...

It says arms and ammunition are prohibited but nothing about parts. Your call.

i've sent small parts and such things (45acp half moon clips to France of all places, reloading dies here and there, sights, a reloading press to canada, etc), things that to the uninformed wouldn't look like much of anything at all - machine parts, tools, etc. small packages that likely don't even get scrutinized closely in the mail. something that's so very clearnly part of a gun and in such a large box is likely to get a lot more attention. all it'd take is some clerk somewhere - like so many of the ones we have here - to overreact and cause no end of problems.

RecoilRob, thanks, i thought i was well familiar w/ the USPS website but didn't even know that section was there. this one packaged would be well within the size limits and the costs on that link were the same as i came up with off the international postage section of their site. it "shouldn't" be a problem. but i still think i'm better off passing.

thanks

There are a lot gun parts, but usually only 3 of them you can't send without export-import permit in Russia for instance: barrel, receiver and bolt. The rest of the parts could be sent by regular post.
I believe the same in Poland.
USPS conditions based on Polish restrictions in this case. All you need to do just declare it in green paper as Stock WZ-29 and send.
Gun itnl.trade is in danger, because a lot American dealers do not understand what do "firearms & weapon" mean for real in USPS conditions. Officers at custom do not understand it also sometimes.

thanks Geno, i'd expect you'd be pretty familiar with the situation. i really hate not sending stuff out of the country. most American gunowners have no idea how good we have it here as far as availability of just plain stuff. even so much as reloading dies are hard to come by in most places.
