I'm looking for a "Single Sighting Plane" rib for a 30" bbl LC Smith.
Please email me if you have a lead. spurshooter@verizon.net
Dave will get the $10 for the transaction
Thanks in advance.

Chuck: I have talked a lot old SxS shotgun in my time. What the dickens is a Single Sighting Plane rib? Don't elaborate on a gun with the barrels in the wrong position, please. Just the SxS.LOL Best, John

John, LC Smith incorporated a relatively high "solid" rib they called a "single sighting plane" rib. I think it must have been a marketing ploy to counter the opposing single barrel and stackgun claims of having a superior single sight picture as opposed to those outdated sxs guns that clearly have inferior, eye crossing sight pictures (with convergence, I might add. LOL).
In reality, the single sighting plane rib is hollow, like a channel underneath to keep it reasonable in weight.

Thanks my friend. What a bucket of foolishness !!! Good to know, though. I looked at some loose Smith barrels I have stuck in the closet, but none none would be of any help to you. Best, John

In 1939 the Hunter Arms Co. came out with the Single Sighting Plane as a $5.00 option. In 1940 it was a standard feature. The object of it was to let your eye focus on just the higher rib and not on the two barrels.

Ken, I think he mostly got short pieces. I was hoping the LC guys like MDC and Bobby might have something. Worse case, I'll weld 2" on the muzzle end of the old one and rematte the addition, which means I need to make an matting tool.
