Hi,new to the forum and I have been realy impressed with the level of knowledge here.
I just picked up this Meriden Firearms AJ Aubrey serial #2172.Appears to be a midgrade, nice engraving, damascus barrels with a good pattern remaining.Lock up is tight with no play, barrels bright with no pits, all numbers match. It has a very solid feel to it
The action feels real gummy, seems to be a lot of dried gease. The worst is that over the years it has seen the careless use of screwdrivers with the heads buggered and the screw under the lever is stripped.I will need to find a good doublegun smith to take it apart, clean and lube it and repair the stripped screw.Any recommendations in the Maryland area?
No real proof marks on barrels, just serial #,the letter D and a 2.The watertable is also just marked with the serial # and a letter I can't make out.
I have attached some pictures, any informaton is welcome.
Thanks,John

Thanks for the excellent pics John. That is indeed an early A.J. Aubrey, which later was the Model 34 A.D.E. with "Leaf Style Engraving." In 1909 the gun sold for $18.85 with "Genuine 2-Blade Damascus", $16.35 with Laminated Steel. Guns then had 'PAT'D July 9, 1907' marked on the top rib. Have you checked the PictureTrail album? http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?p=999&gid=17474742
I'd be happy to give you the names of some doublegun specialist smiths in Penn. if you'd like to e-mail me at revdoc2@cox.net

johnr,

Welcome. A very nice Aubrey. There has been a discussion about these guns that may interest you:

We have started to maintain a list of serial numbers. Your gun is one of the earliest we have recorded so far.

I noticed each tube is stamped "Genuine Damascus". I believe that is the 1st time I have noticed that. Very interesting.

Thanks for the feedback Drew and Pete. I waded thru the whole 15 page thread on the Meridian Firearms, found lots of useful information and history there, also Drew's picture trail was the first thing I found when looking for information on this gun.
Pete,my pioture does not show it well but the one barrel is stamped Genuine Damascus, the other is stamped Choke Bored.
John
