On the Lefevers, including the later guns with all parts in the frame, the side plates are not just dummy plates as one normally thinks of on a side-plated box lock, but are removable for access to the works inside. Also the parts are situated inside much more like a sidelock than the normal boxlock, so while they are trully a plated boxlock, they are a sort of unique action, having many qualities of a side lock. Many people over the years have referred to them as sidelocks, but that is technically incorrect.
