Has anyone seen any reduced prices on shot? The chart http://www.kitcometals.com/charts/lead_historical_large.htmllooks encouraging but I was in the new Bass Pro shop in Ontario, Kelifornya last Tuesday and their price was $59.95 (ouch).

JIm, I haven't seen any drop. I wouldn't expect a drop in price for a few months. Shot sales don't seem to be a highly competitive market.

Shot is at $45 in St. Louis, MO this week.
I'm not shooting many clay birds at this time of the year. My dog has graciously been taking me bird hunting instead, and we only fire a few rounds each day, so lead cost isn't currently important. She does give me dirty looks when I miss.
We always stop at Mickey D's for lunch, and she gets her own "Big & Tasty." That seems to placate her for my mediocre marksmansip.

Jim, I was told that shot prices would stay in the $50.00 range for quite a long time. Even the shot reclaimers are selling the reclaimed shot for scrap lead prices. Seems there is a shortage of lead shot world wide. Mirage that makes shotshells in Italy had to shut down for 2 months because they had no shot.

Even with the price of raw lead dropping, warehouse stock levels have not increased. The supply has to go up for the price to go down, and with all the talk about China and India using lead batteries for cars and mopeds (and toys!hehe, sorry, not funny) it kind of scares me. I have no idea how much raw lead is left on this earth and Im not even sure experts can quite tell us, but one thing is for sure, any of the non-renewable resources are going to continually increase in price until we find alternative sources. With our luck, legislature will ban lead shot in all forms of hunting and shooting, thereby removing our complaints about lead prices and hurting our wallets even more because we will all have to buy steel or some other high priced lead substitute. Im half tempted to buy a shot maker and start fighting with the local fishermen for wheel weights to melt down. If lead ever does go down I think Im going to buy enough to last quite a while.

I have become much more interested in guns which prevent me from expending much lead--Ruger Old Army, other revolvers and rifles. Down to one or two squads of skeet per wk. and I never was exactly a "lead lush" at trap so at my age and ability level, it isn't a tragedy if I make an accomodation which allows me to continue to eat, keep the lights on, and attempt to maintain a bit of equanimity about the needs of others who might want to share in the resources of this world.

I thought the 3/4 oz 20 was the best kept secret in the shotgun world. But I've recently discovered that 5/8 oz is no problem, and I've seen no decrement in skeet scores. #8.5s and #9s make the most sense here.
I still prefer 3/4 oz and #8s for 5 stand. 3/4 is now my standard practice load for the 12. When I get a 3/4 oz bar for the 16 ga press I'll be done with 7/8 oz there, too.

Thanks Sam. I was going to shoot a couple boxes of 12 ga Remmy Gun Club tomorrow at skeet. I think I'll go look at the 16 ga. reloaders group recipes and see if there's something for 3/4oz in a Canadian Cheddite hull.
