I have a Ballistic Products roll crimper in a press drill, works well for me, but I bought their cartridge clamp, whatever you call it, I clamp the base of the shell in it, pop in the overshot wad, fire up the drill press and lower it down. I get a really good job on Federal Gold Medal paper hulls as the wax comes out under the heat of friction and lubes the crimper. I just wish they made a hull cutter for lenght which works easily. Mine is a real pain. What to you fellas use to shorten hulls to 2 1/2 or 2 1/4"

Thanks, Mark, I forgot about that thread. Jim's hand cutter for paper hull looks good to me, I'll try and make my own up.
I do like the Federal Gold medal paper hulls, people are always asking for one as a souvenir, I make them in 2 1/4" and they are cute.

Hi,
Trimming hulls is easy if you have a drill press. I just chuck in a 4" cut off wheel, lock the press at the right height and slide the hulls across the wheel. It slices the hull perfectly. takes about 20 seconds each. I doubt it matters but I do this with plastic 10 gauge Federals and Remingtons and 12 gauge STS. I haven't tried papers but it ought to work as long as the hulls are stiff enough not to dent.

Here's my version of Jim Legg's hull trimmer. The bit on the end is an aluminum wing nut w/ wings cut off staked to a 1/4"X 20 stud. End of the Delrin rod is tapped for the stud and there's a setscrew to hold position. This adds adjustable length of hull and can be used by hand or chucked in the lathe.

How critical is the angle of the blade? Can you post a clear picture of the blade angle?

I think all factory loaded brass hulls were originally crimped...I only have one factory loaded brass shotgun case. It's OO Buck Shot from WWI.

More empty brass cases were sold than factory by far.

I've often wondered about that....where's your info come from ?
