Boothroyd books are all good. Some better for us than others but all well worth having in the library. Best, John

Some of Boothroyd's info has been supplanted in recent years by the research-intensive works by the likes of Don Masters, Donald Dallas and Nigel Brown but there is little question that Boothroyd was very very important in cataloging information on British makers, well-known and obscure alike, at a time when few in the sporting press cared. For this much credit is due.
Make sure you get the second edition of the "Directory" as the first edition is not properly alphabeticized and has errors corrected in the second edition.

I have Revised Dictionary of British Gunmakers. It's next to useless. If you don't already own them buy The Shotgun History and Development along with Shotguns and Gunsmiths The Vintage Years. The British Over-and-Under is also good if you're into vertical guns.

Hi Jagermeister and Franc, now you have me interested in the books you mentioned. Which one of these books would tell me about the various makers? - I've already got books on history and action types etc. I would like to get the 2 Vol. set on British Gunmakers (London and Birmingham) just can't afford the $80 apiece for them.
Couls you give me more details on these books?
Thanks so very much - Happy New Year!!
Greg
