Just bought a Parker PH with Vickers/Co. replacement barrel. My brother has a LC A-1 with Vickers barrel. Anyone with info/history on the company? When did the Vickers hang up a shingle? What's the quality of these barrels? On the PH, I would guess they replaced a twist barrel. Thanks for your input. Randy

Randy, the Vickers barrels were sold in the 60s by Atlas Arms. Best of my recollection they had barrels for Parkers, LCs, and Winchester 21s. The one I have seen are kind of crude, but a lot of that possibly had to do with whoever fitted and finished them. There are also some Belgian made barrels that were made for Parker guns, one set I have has the serial # of the gun and is really nicely made. I don't recall where the Vickers barrel were made but they should have proof marks, probably Italy or Spain.

I could well be wrong, but I seem to recall Vickers being an English steel co. I highly suspect they simply supplied unfinished tubes to the bbl maker.

ESC..English Steel Corporation... Vickers formed the new company & name in the 1920's to regroup from bad economic times. They were out of the steel producing business by the mid to late 60's by the nationalization of the industry there. Don't know if the marking is a legit Vickers mark or just an attempt to take advantage of the name. The marking certainly looks well done. Doesn't really matter, if the barrels are of good quality and fit up well, then they serve their intended purpose. I do recall Atlas Arms Corp having replacement barrels for SxS guns as already stated and these may very well have been from there.

Interesting comments. The gun I just purchased has a different stamping than Drews photo. Since I've seen only photos of the PH, I can't be sure of the exact wording. I know it does not say nickel steel. Looked at my brothers LC A-1 and it is not a Vickers, but a "Made by Armat" with Belgium markings on the barrel flats. I thought it to be a Vickers also, wrong. What I can make of the markings on the PH, it starts with "EBC" probably "ESC" then about 3 other letters and then Vickers and Co. Will know more when the gun arrives. Those that have a Vicker barreled gun, were they built for the ammo of the 60's? Randy

RMC,
Are you sure that is ARMAT and not ARMAF? Armaf was in business from 1929 to 1972. They should only have produced steel barrels.

This came out of a 1968 Gun Digest, note the part that discusses Vickers Steel barrels used on the over-under by Atlas Gun the other picture is the set of barrels I mentioned in the post above. Jim

Pete, I stand corrected, it is Armaf. As I understand, Atlas does not have any connection to Vickers. Randy
