That serial number would make your gun a Flues model from 1911. It very likely started life chambered for 2 1/2 inch 20-gauge shells. In those days Ithaca was making many of their smallbores very light and many of the thin sidewalls of their frames have cracked from years of North American Nimrods serving them a steady diet of all manner of Super-X type 20-gauge shells.

A little more explination of 'crazy single trigger" please? Ithacas of that age are quite often found with the Infallible Single Trigger made by Lancaster Arms Co. They have the selector along the left side of the top tang.

thanks for the help i don't think i have the trigger you are talking about this one is in the rear position i don't think it is selective. how do i find out about the chamber? no markings on the barrels. what is safe for the gun to shoot? this is not a collector grade double i purchased it to shoot with the krupp bbl's i did not think it would be a problem. i posted a pict or two here if the link works.
thanks chris

ctw,

Like Researcher has said above, and the fellow who responded to your other post, you should only be shooting low pressure, and preferably, 2 1/2 inch loads in this gun. BUT only if the action is tight, the barrels are not dented, bulged, or severely pitted on the interiors, and the tubes are solidly joined at both ribs. Your pictures indicate a cracked and loosely fitting forend. The wood on this gun is old and likely oil soaked at the head. This may not be evident on the exterior. Check it for cracks near the action and wrist (section of buttstock just ahead of the grip before it meets the action). And, as already mentioned, Flues model frames are known to be thin and susceptible to cracking (failure) and today's run of the mill ammunition is too much for these guns. Check for any looseness amongst the barrels and the action when the barrels are on the gun and the forend is off. Krupp is known as good material but doesn't mean loose or 'off face' barrels should be shot.
As for the chamber lenght, you need to have a chamber gauge to measure them accurately.

Hope some of this helps.

There are two views on what to shoot in short chambers, I go with that 2 3/4 plastic shells are fine as long as the pressure is proper for the gun in question. If you can buy or load anything in the 8000 psi range you should be fine. The general consensus is that most promo loads and such go about 11,500 psi or so and anything labeled magnum is likely higher.

I'm pretty sure that you have the Ithaca non-selective single trigger. When Ithaca brought that trigger out in the early 1930s they offered to fit it to any Ithaca hammerless double over 175000 serial number.
