OP LetFly Sidelock Joined: Dec 2019 Posts: 271 Likes: 20	Installing a new period style pad on my 1949 Ithaca SBT. I do not wish to use the slit method, rather I would like to cut two holes and then use the cut plugs to fill the holes. I have no experience in doing this so experienced advice is required.

BrentD, Prof Sidelock Joined: Jan 2004 Posts: 6,715 Likes: 415 Iowa	I use .45-70s to cut holes and .38-55 or .40-65 to cut plugs when covering with leather. If the pad is soft, a little bit of oil (inside the case as well as out) helps keep the cut smooth. May work on harder pads as well, but I only do soft pads. _________ BrentD, (Professor - just for Stan)
