What is the prefered shot size and load used in the traditional English Style Driven Shoots using the 2-1/2" bore English Game Gun?

Traditional British load is 1 and 1/16 oz of number 6 shot (English)2.6mm pellets but as the season progresses and the birds feather and muscle up we go to Number 4's (American 5's)for Pheasants.
6's for Partridge normally suffice all season.

In the U.S. there is a formula: shot size = 17-the size of the shot in thousands. Does England have such a formula?
