Marlin did some of their older lever rifles in a similar fashion; however, I don't know if it pre-dated use on a shotgun or not. Does anyone here know who was first to apply this particular 'style' or shape to the grip cap area?
As an aside, the 'style' is not disimilar to some older Russian work I have seen depicted as well.

This shape is called a scroll grip. Why ??? don't know but thats what it is called amongst the single shot rifle industry group.

Reb, it is odd to see a cap on the grip of a B Grade. All I have seen had a rounded pistol grip. That cap shape is found often on higher grades of that period .

I agree with Daryl. I have seen that very cap on the Paragon's and above grades, but not on a B grade. If you remove the trigger guard, you will see where the wood is ser. no. to the gun (all I have seen anyhow). Is it the same as the ser. of the gun? The checkering appears to be that of B grade and not a higher grade though. Do you have pictures of the rest of the gun we could look at?
