I was wondering if anyone could help me identify what model J.P. Sauer this is. It is a 20 gauge non-ejector with 2 3/4" chambers. It was made in Eckernforde in January of 1954. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Dave B

At a glance and from a Suhl catalogue, it looks to be a Modell VIII. How does the last line read on the barrel flats?
Kind Regards,

The Model VIII had cocking indicators and not sideclips. This is a different bird.

The photos of the Modell VIII Selbstspanner-Doppelflinte has sideclips in a small reprint catalogue, whereas, in a 1924 Reprint Sauer catalogue the receiver does not.

Ellenbr, there is no writing on the flats. Just the usual German proof marks. I don't think a Suhl catalog would apply in this case since this is Eckernforde made Sauer in 1954. Thank you for taking the time to look in your catalog though. I was thinking that is was a model 60 but I didn't think the 60 had side clips. I don't think it is a Royal model because the Royal had ejectors and had a scalloped action. I was thinking that perhaps it was a model between these two that I have no knowledge of.
Thanks, Dave B

Dave B:
Someone will be along to set the record straight. I saw your post with a big "goose egg" in the reply column and thought I'd make a stab at it. I believe it reads "full choke" on the lower portion of the barrel flats.
Kind Regards,
Raimey rse

Ellenbr, thanks for the reply. It will teach me to read posts more carefully. I didn't quite understand what writing you were referring too. You are correct as it is marked "halfchoke" and "fullchoke".
Thanks, Dave B

Dave: Maybe this will help some. This is a picture of a Model VIII which I used to own. Looks pretty similar. Mine was just a couple of years newer that yours. I have a 1959 & 1960 copy of Shooter's Bible which shows examples of Model VII engraving patterns. The illustrations show side clips. If you, or any of the other Sauer addicts want these copies, let me know! Roy

Roy:
Thanks for the info. I am a German addict which would make me a Sauer addict by default, so tell me how I might get the patterns.

My Model VIII without sideclips and different cocking indicators was built for the German market in 1914. It has less engraving, understated but more tasteful to my eye, more English than German.
