I lost the left hammer to my J. Blanch & Son yesterday shooting five stand. I found it this morning with the engraved screw holding it on still in the hammer but sheared off at about an eighth of an inch. Rest of it's in the nut the hammer fits on.

Is it possible and worth it to save the engraved head of the screw by welding on another screw to it? Or should I just find another screw that fits...Geo

Getting the rest of the screw out is a challenge, or maybe not.

My approach (if tools available at reasonable cost)
Build up the existing 1/8 length with a micro TIG
Epoxy the head to a piece of steel so it can be chucked
GENTLY machine the weld area to size
Thread the new stub to suit.

May sound hokey, but I have done similar.

Getting a new screw made and engraved may be cheaper, dunno

Thanks Colonial, I think I'm going with having a new screw made. The engraving is pretty simple...Geo

Make a new screw or find a replacement that you can alter the head to match the original.
Keep the head from the old one. Send it along to the engraver so he/she can use it to copy over the engraving to the new one.
