I have been thinking about a 20ga slug gun with fully rifled bores. I want to be able to reload for this.

I started looking around for a possible source and found this site. Does anyone have any experience with these folks: http://gardnerscache.com/20ga_slug_reload_kit_25pcs_.html

They using the Lyman mold #2654120. A 350 grain sabot slug.

The alternative I have been looking at is Ballistic Products Dangerous Game slugs.

I am interested in hearing any opinions.

Pete

Pete,
I have used the Lyman slugs with great results using Universal Clays powder. I load them to specs given in the insert that came with the mold and if you are going to be doing much shooting, you might as well buy the mold. These were loaded in AA white wads to about 1450 and are very accurate and hit very hard. If you will send me your mailing address I will be glad to talk to you some more about these. Bob H.

Pete,

from my experience I'd suggest you to look at Ballistic Products Dangerous Game slugs. THis slug is very well known as Guallandi slug here. These kind of slug is for both smooth and rifled barrels and usualy shows very good accuracy.
The pic of slug on top is common cup-slug for use in small gauge rifles and smooth bore guns <20G. I used them in 32G. I played a lot with them, but this type of reloading, when you put slug into wad-cup is not good at all, slug deformes before it leaves barrel and do not show good accuracy.

Geno,

I was hoping you might respond. So far you are the only with experience using the BP Dangerous Game slugs. I also found the Gualandi company: http://www.gualandi.it/index2.htm It has the results of the Italian National Testing Lab posted.

So, is this a common slug in Europe?

Thanks,

Pete

Don't know about whole Europe, but it's common slug here now. Accuracy is very good, I can put 10 slugs in 10" circle at 100 yards just like that, but from one particular barrel, but the only difference from Brenneke slug for instance, Brenneke slug got better stopper effect on animal, than Gualandi one. But for whitetail it will be what youre looking for

Hello Pete.
I played around quite a bit with this stuff and had very good luck with the 3" Brenneke and lightfield hybrid slugs. Both grouped within 2" or less at 100yds.
This was with a slow twist rifled barrel. I moved to the Lightfield to avoid the slight leading issues with the German slug.
I don't have any experience shooting game with them yet, but I plan on it this winter.

Cheers
Tom
