Smart but as you know so hard to do. Ive done it far more often than twice. Please dont tell my wife that. Just finished putting a new stock on a very low dollar pump gun. Nothing like putting a five hundred dollar stock on a hundred dollar gun. Then another two hundred dollars into the project.

Sounds like a sensible plan. Start slowly, where most important and gather the facts before decisions are made. Good luck. Hope it passes and turns out to be a worthy project.

I think I would look for whoever got it into that state and bash them over the head with it! Please note that it is only black powder proof. It may only be worth restoration if it was to pass Nitro Proof. I know you don't have to bother about things like that but even so it would affect its value. Cost of restoration my be over its eventual worth. The early dipped edge lock plate models don't seem to be as desirable as the later ones. Personally, unless an almost giveaway price and would at least pass re-proof for black again, I would leave it. What a shame! Lagopus..

All intenals. Springs, hammers, strikers, even ejector parts have been without proper care in over 100yrs. I suggest were the name on the locks almost any other maker, this conversation doesnt happen. Its a clapped out Holland&Holland. A crying ass shame, but there it is.

Its not about cost, its about reliability afterward. That new stock on the pump gun will provide you years of effective performance. That H&H is way beyond that. By the time that money pit is full, a far better candidate, with some monetary wiggle room, would have been a better option.

Hey, that gun's not so bad. I once had a Boss gun with one inch square holes cut out of the sides of both barrels where it had failed proof. They still let me join the exclusive Boss Gun Owners of America Club...Geo

This.

With typical English understatement, we also get schooled on that old action, something many American shooters are oblivious to.

A wall hanger. Not your typical wall hanger, but, a wall hanger, nonetheless.
