Does anyone recognize or know who this gunsmith or manufacturers marking is?

It looks to be a stylized "K" in an oval stamped on the barrel forward of the receiver ring. It is on a Mauser 98 sporter rifle which also stamped "Cal 30-06" with serial number.

It looks like a K and a P to me.

That's likely an original Mauser barrel, and the K stamp appears often on Mauser barrels, especially early K Sauers and G98.

I have several original Oberndorf sporters in caliber .30-'06 and they are all marked "7.6 S" on the barrel and "US 1906" on the receiver above the serial number. Or do you think it's a Model 1909 in 7.65 Argentine which has been rechambered to .30-'06?

It has a sporter contour barrel, no markings on the underside and only the K and the CAL 30-06. The receiver does have a Z in a circle (Czech?) stamp and M7E in the lug area. Also has a 7 stamped on the side of the trigger guard. The bolt also has the serial number (matching the recv.#)electro penciled on it.
