Family legend held that one of my great grandmothers was a direct descendant of an important figure in the Confederacy. I remember her photo in the newspaper over 50 years ago in attendance at some event honoring descendants. With the advent of genealogical research available online, a few years ago I was able to track descendants from the historical figure until past my great grandmother's birth. I then went backwards from her with birth records, census records, marriage records and cemetery records. The lines never intersected. Of course that doesn't explain everything and rule out other possibilities but it was enough for me, and disappointing to the rest of the family. Gil

My family has been in the South for a long time. I am sure I've got some rebels in the attic, but just never was interested enough in genealogy to find out. That stuff has been over for too long to be arguing about it.
Then of course there's the new socialist division plot about free stuff for slavery reparations. That'll be an ugly fight no doubt...Geo

Whatever the cause, the enduring struggle to be human triumphed, it's people collectively and collaboratively made a great country. Ugh, this is so stupid. The struggle continues in the Less is thread. Figured canvasback’s hockey thread wouldn’t last long. ________________________ Beam me up, Scotty.

Maybe we should discuss whether sugar belongs in cornbread. That will really get people riled up.

Sometimes we need reminding ourselves that our country's travails are not darkness but shadow which we've illuminated and diminished with a strengthened humanity in the past.

Honey on top of cornbread is very good True, but cane syrup is better, and as long as you are using cane syrup might as well substitute cathead biscuit for the cornbread...Geo
