Stopped by Sportsman's Haven to talk shop and see how the clan at Umbergers were doing. Sweetest .410 I've ever laid eyes on was sitting in the rack. It's out of my league but I thought maybe someone on the board might be interested. It's a custom ordered gun with single trigger and a high end Umberger stock. Looks unfired. English grip and full coverage engraving. Price was about 4K and they said it was "somewhat negotiable". They took it on trade for a custom stock and said they had a little room to play. Gunsmith said he'd weighed it before but couldn't remember exactly how much. 5# +. He said they had some spec info available from the AYA factory that was available. Does this seem reasonable for an AYA .410? Should I post the Ph.# of Sportsman's Haven?

Lloyd, you didn't specify what model it was. For the price you stated I guess it is a No 2. If you go to the Cabela"s web site and look at the AYAs there. There are a few .410's there. http://cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/..._re=gl*left*aya

I asked if it was a #2 and the Gunsmith said it was a custom ordered gun and wasn't cataloged. I'm a novice, especially with higher end guns. I've got Parker taste with a Stevens 311 budget, so I don't get to handle the good stuff too often. I called back and he left a message on my machine with the following info... 4lbs 10 ounces - 2-5/16 x 1-7/16 x 14-1/4.
I own 2 AYA's but they are Matadors so it's kind of like owning a Savage Fox compared to an A.H. Fox. The Sportsman's Haven is one of the best gunshops in the country and they do alot of restoration projects on older high end SxS's. I'm sure they could clarify/ expand on the AYA's history if they were asked the right questions.

The Sportman"s Haven might be a great place but it seems to me that they could give you more information than "custom built". Did the gun have detachable sidelocks or was it a boxlock. Most of the AYS's if you order from them, you can order them with a straight grip or pistol grip, measurements to your order, case colored receiver or coin finish, double triggers, single selective trigger, beavertail or splinter. So don't let them tell you it was special ordered, they all are unless places like Cabela's, Bass Pro or Gander Mountain or any other big sporting goods chain orders them to what they think will sell.
Get all the information here. http://www.aya-fineguns.com/ingles/modelos/paralelas.htm

Called back to ask a few questions and the .410 was sold. But he has the exact same gun in 28 gauge. He said they were both made in 1983 and they were AYA #2's with upgraded single trigger ($800 option)and upgraded engraving on CC detachable sidelock receiver. Wood on 28 gauge is AYA factory wood, where the .410 was an Umberger stock. They were both Brent Umberger's guns ordered at the same time and possibly unfired. LOP 14-1/4" and same price as the .410 (4k)
