Woodcock in Canada, where to go?? Also grouse. But primarily Woodcock. Looking at making a trip to Quebec or New Brunswick in September of this year. My bird hunting busy and I and our dogs. Not looking for 5 star resort. Looking for a nice clean comfortable place with good simple food and accommodations. Want to bring our dogs with us. Hunt 4-5 days. Anyone have any recommendations on guides, lodges , locations.
I see the game areas have varied start dates. Mostly 15 Sept. or 21 Sept. start. Really want to go where we can hunt 15 Sept. -19 Sept so we can get back for our season start in the Adirondacks.

Hornepayne, Ontario. 150-200 miles northeast of Sault Ste Marie. Vast Queens Land (public). Everything North of town is huntable. You will find grouse and woodcock. If you wish to stop short, Hearst is a good bet too. Brian you would travel up 11 from Toronto. Bob Jurewicz

Our Canadian participants are welcome to confirm this, but I believe in some Canadian provinces (I think some of the Maritimes?) you are required to hunt with a guide.

Quebec....No! new Brunswick...yes. ontario yes. Google ministry of natural resources (MNR) for hunting regulations for each province. you'll find all that you need. PM me if you need more info.

Dal, are you saying an American needs a guide in Ontario? I quickly looked at the regs this morning and couldn't find anything.
