Rust bluing barrels on Stevens SxS, and have a question. Barrels are brazed, and the golden braze shows. How do you darken the exposed braze to blend it with the rust blue?

Check with Brownell, they likely have a solution that fits your need. Mike

They do have Birchwood Casey Brass Black, but no info on whether it will harm existing bluing. I was hoping someone would have previous experience with the same problem.

Birchwood Casey Brass Black contains acids, but some of the ingredients are used in cold blues. Here's an MSDS listing the ingredients:

Hard to say what it might do to a fresh rust blue job without actually trying it. I used some years ago to darken the shiny brass furniture on a flintlock hunting rifle, and it was pretty durable and held up well, at least until natural tarnish took over. I think Sharpie permanent marker would come off when using cleaners and gun oils fairly quickly, but it could always be re-applied. I'd be inclined to try using the brass black in a very thin line before applying your rusting solutions, and then rust and boil normally taking care not to card aggressively on the braze joint that has already been darkened.
A true sign of mental illness is any gun owner who would vote for an Anti-Gunner like Joe Biden.

I had a Stevens 311-D reblued a lot of years ago. Barrels came back blotchy and the receiver was purple. Don't do the receiver.

Receiver is done. I rust blued that, and the other parts, came out great. My only problem is some of the brazing showing.

Stevens used what looked like black paint. I think brass black may discolor bluing. I think I would try brass black but may need to have a pass or two of rust blue after.
