Have acquired two case labels that appear to be originals and seek to glue them into after market cases. Grateful for recommendation of a suitable glue to use, a glue such that it would be possible to remove the labels intact at some future date.

I think hide glue is traditional and it makes for an easy removal if you exchange guns...Geo
A modern substitute might be your grandkid's construction paper glue.

I used some 3M spray adhesive for my newly printed label. Its held on for 3 years perfectly and probably would be removable if needed although I've never tried.

Stick (!) with hide glue. Do NOT be tempted by any PVA/White glue.

I used some 3M spray adhesive for my newly printed label. Its held on for 3 years perfectly and probably would be removable if needed although I've never tried. If the product is called “Spraymount”, that is exactly what it is designed to do. There are instructions on the can for temporary, removable mounts, and for permanent, as well. A staple in the art and graphics world for about 40 years, and, little known anywhere else. Check in art supply stores. Usually comes in a can with two nozzles, just in case. Best, Ted

"Titebond" genuine hide glue. Available on Amazon.com. I have used it on case labels, it woks great, does not bleed through the label.

I contacted CSMC on what to use to re-glue my RBL case label and they said they use 3M Super 77 spray.

Toby Barclay is 100% right though there is a more friendly version. They do produce a clean removable washable and water soluble type of PVA. On this side of the pond it is sold as preschool or children's PVA adhesive. It has enough grip for case labels and easily reversible leaving no marks or stains if you dont want to go with the Rabbit skin glue that was the Victorians go to adhesive for any high quality paper fixing.
The only lessons in my life I truly did learn from where the ones I paid for!

Elmer's makes a clean, removable, rubber cement initially for photos and fine art prints that works for gun labels as well. Holds fine and can be removed leaving little or no residue. Available in art supply outlets like Michaels, Hobby Lobby.

I've used double sided adhesive sheets from craft stores made for laminating with good results. They are removable when needed.

As others have said, hide glue ( also called pearl glue) is the best option . Titebond makes a liquid hide glue that works great.
I have removed labels where PVA glue was used, and it is very, very difficult to remove the label without some damage.
Modern spray adhesives, while easy to use, do not work well in the long term. Most cases of any vintage have absorbed oils and solvents over the years, both in the wood, as well as the fabric. Eventually the oils/solvents will render the spray adhesive a sticky, greasy mess, and the label will not stick to the fabric.
