The barrels on the Chas. Osborn BLNE I posted about have a good bit of pitting inside and out. It's not worth much of an expense for this, and I could Flexhone it myself if I had to. Who is the resource folks turn to for an assessment about if the bores can be cleaned up, and perhaps honing them if there's material to permit that work?

I expect Jon Hosford could and would, but wanted to ask here.

Thanks.

Second on Mike Orlen. Give him a call. He rarely responds to email. Fast and reasonable. He has a price listed posted on the Gunsmithing forum on Shotgun World.

good luck,
John

Mike is good but Ive got to add another excellent barrel man. Dean Harris of Skeets Gun Shop in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. His work is absolutely top notch and prompt turnaround. (918)456-4749.

I'll second Mike, he seems to be back logged a bit but he is normally quick. Good to know about Dean Harris!

Never used Dean, but talked to him for a long while last year about regulating a gun. He is very pleasant and takes time to talk. You can't say that about a lot of gunsmiths, and I can understand why they need to be working in the shop. But, somehow Dean does both. I got very good vibes when I talked to him, and am anxious to give him a try.

Making a little progress with th exterior surface pitting. Measured the wall thickness today with a Manson gauge. Clearly either the dial indicator is screwed up or I have absolutely no skill using this tool. I was getting .000 measurements, which cant be right since there actually is material present to measure. I could feel the gauge pass over the pitsnin the bores. Im getting the feeling that its a lost cause. No budget for sleeving, and its not worth it anyway. This is all I have to shoot right now, but I wont be. Shame. Would have been a neat gun to have working again.
