Wow, I believe that's a Whelen bolt sleeve sight, by all accounts superior to the cocking piece varieties.

That sight may get in the way of the Weaver scope mounts. Just a thought.

This is an '03 in the 919,000 range but it has a 1924 star gauged NRA sporter barrel on it. Plus the nice wood and of course the Hoffman marked Howe-Whelen rear sight are what I liked about the rifle. What I didn't like was the light colored wood fore end cap which made me wonder if the horn cap got eaten up and someone replaced it with the wood.
I kind of doubt I will be adding any Weaver scope bases to it!!

My comment was sarcasm coming from a collector of iron sighted Springfields, too few of which have a bolt peep sight.

What's a good guess as to the stock maker? I wouldn't hesitate to make a new forearm tip.

Bill (8bore), I knew you were just pulling my chain.

Bill F, I have no idea who made the stock, maybe some one else has a guess. I also thought a new tip might help.
