America's always preferred divided leadership. If we can keep'em (the politicians) from doing anything we're probably ahead of the game...Geo

Modern Presidents may usually serve two terms, but if they get anything done its usually in the first two years.

I wish I could see clearly what to do in those situations, miller. I've visited Civil War battlefields and monuments throughout the South. I like to read inscriptions to measure the care communities have taken with their history. The statues, sabres and horses are a welcome sight to me. Then I remember they must affect others differently for good reasons.

This year they removed a beautiful statue of Lord Edward Cornwallis in our provincial capital of Halifax. He was a soldier who founded Halifax and massacred native people fighting on the side of the French while both empires struggled for control of the continent. I felt the statue should remain with an inscription describing accurately both sides of history.

I feel the same about those in the South.

Its not all doom and gloom today. Rhinos got defeated but more conservative Republican candidate dates did very well. Most New Democrats appear the be very young, very liberal, almost socialist. Like many I dont look forwards to seeing Nancy Pelosi every day but her pathway ito leadership is not that clear. Unlike the Republicans, who dont assign chairmanships based on Seniorty and who term limit how long a chair may lead, all of the key chairmanship will go to the longest serving, oldest Democratic members who are mostly in their 70s or greater. When the younger part of the House finds out their pathway to real power is blocked for a decade or more I expect a lot of resentment and more than a little kickback. They are much more liberal, almost socialist to me and I dont think waiting 10-15 years for real power will suit them. Plus a House bill still has to get past the Senate and President.

I just finished a rather interesting evaluation of our last election and why going forwards the Democrats may be able to control only the House as we go forwards, not the Senate. It comes down to population distribution. In 20 years, 15 states will have the majority of the population and those states will be dominated by Democrats. Think California, New York, North East, west Coast type distribution. So that will give the Democrats a good base to elect House members but a very weak base to elect Senators. With congressional apportionment based on population, the Blue states will elect a lot of congressmen but only 30 Senators. And even in California a fe Republicans gets elected in pockets of strong support. To gain control of the Senate they will be forced to win Senate races in predominantly Red states. Thats going to be very difficult to do.

Better yet will be the fact that all Federal judges must be approved by what will be a much more conservative Senate. Change the Federal court system from liberal to conservative dominated, including the Supreme Court and a lot of court mandated changes will be reversed over time.

In Illinois, the Democrats now control the Governor's office and all other statewide offices, the Illinois House and Senate, and both US Senators. Our Billionaire Gov-elect has proposed new spending programs that will require massive tax increases on nearly all IL residents.

now with the dims running the house, we get to see how good a wheeler dealer/deal maker trump really is...

in order to get what he wants from the dims, trump has to make temporary friends with them and give them somethings they want...this process of give and take, ie compromise, is what we used to call politics...

and once you make friends with your political enemies and give them something they can crow about, people begin to become less partisan and start to unify behind a wise leader, who gives hope to all...if trump can accomplish this in the next two years, he could be reelected in a landslide victory in 2020...it could be 1984 all over again...that would be a wonderful thing...

Are you schizophrenic or something Ed? You act like you would like to see Trump re-elected, but if he is re-elected, he will not be signing the kind of anti-gun legislation you obviously would like:

elementary statistical theory and the law of probability indicates that the only meaningful solution to the growing number of misuses of that class of firearms is to reduce the number of semi automatic firearms now in wide distribution nationwide.

reducing the amount of anything will reduce its misuse.

if one were looking for a definition of the term "gun nut", just read some of the wacky, so called pro gun posts here.

i am calling for a common sense discussion of the suggestion that we have too many dangerous weapons in the hands of too many people.

the question i ask, is this:

have we reached the saturation point of being over armed?

as responsible gun owners, we should be able to have that conversation here. but, will the so called pro gun fanatics here allow it?

A true sign of mental illness is any gun owner who would vote for an Anti-Gunner like Joe Biden.

gee keith, fact is humans are complex creatures...one could say that we are all skitzo somewhat, depending on our intellect and thought processes...

anyway, thanks for digging up the above posts...i had forgotten how thought provoking they are...too bad you refuse to think with an open mind...

and a way to bring us all together, as a nation, is to recognise that right now, many of us think one way and many of us think another way, and in reality even more of us dont think much at all...least wise not about national unity...then a next step is to engage in respectful dialog with those we disagree with, in an effort to find common ground and solutions to problems, that may require some sacrifice by a few for the greater good of many...

like, recently there was mass murder with firearms done in pa and now in ca...what is your suggestion, if any, to prevent these horrible acts from occurring again, and again and again? or is there really nothing that can be done?

an please, consider starting a separate thread here, so we can all discuss gun rights issues here, without further trashing this fine thread, with our off topic posts...i eagerly await the opportunity to have thoughtful and respectful dialog with you and others here, re this important and timely topic...

There is really nothing to discuss with you about gun rights, ed. Further, Keith should feel free to post that right here in this thread.

I dont ever remember looking at something you posted and having the notion it was thought provoking, save perhaps thinking to myself This guy is a Dufus.

Take it for what it is, ed.

Best,
Ted

+1 Ted, and thanks for permission to go off-topic.

Ed wishes to stay on topic in order to avoid seeing his own anti-gun rhetoric being repeated. But the original topic was a reminder to vote in the mid-term election... which was finished two days ago on Nov. 6th. And really, what is the mental state of these Trolls who even think it might be a good idea to discuss restricting gun rights of law abiding citizens here on a firearms forum? Saying they have shit for brains is being way too generous.

The only thing "thought provoking" about Ed's anti-gun Trolling or any of his other moronic posts is to ask ourselves why his several suspensions for threatening and idiotic behavior here have been only temporary, rather than permanent?

Don't forget to get out and vote again Ed. If the doors to your polling place are locked, just stand there and wait until they reopen.

EDIT: I just logged out and saw that Ed's fellow Trolls, King and rocky mth bill, were reading this post. I can't wait to see what sort of clever reply they will come up with in support of their anti-2nd Amendment pal.

" It could be 1984 all over again." Ed, you got that right. Now read George Orwell's 1984.
