Back to the judge, now justice. The allegations were mostly likely complete and total fabricated bullshit. What the Demís did to the man and his family was repulsive. Kavanagh is strong on the 2nd amendment. Yet, now that the dust has settled, Iím not all that happy. Seems doubtful Kavanagh is a Scalia.

The man appears squishy on the 4th amendment. He worked for Bush Jr. and helped write the Patriot act. I donít like that. This is a guy who made the argument that the government can conduct unlimited domestic warrantless surveillance on all Americans at all times. I donít recall any senators asking him about that. Too busy worrying about college keg parties, I guess.

Trump certainly could have picked worse but he probably could have picked better.

Just seems (to me) metadata collection is a FAR more important issue than Roe v. Wade. But it won't get half of the attention. I like that Gorsuch dude far better.

Never happy with half a glass full. Well I am. Just think, shudder to think what lovely nominations Hillary would have given us. A completely stacked liberal Supreme Court for the next two decades. And you could kiss number 2 good bye. For the children they would gut it. Then they would bend 4 into a pretzel to allow them to finish their PC control and thought control against their liberal vision. So what you might think as a weak nominee is a winner, winner chicken dinner to me.

There is no answer to your questions under the circumstances, Mr. Riddell. I believe your "take home" is accurate. One shouldn't despair. I attend other firearms and aviation boards populated by mostly Americans who are unfailing in respect and generosity. This board could be similar with an enforced rule of no politics. Many have asked for it.

I'm late to this party, and have too little time to read 22 pages of bickering about something that is of limited direct relevance to me, so forgive me if it's already been answered, but can someone explain to me whether the US has a "separation of powers" principle? It appears not, or am I reading the situation incorrectly? It's utterly foreign to me, from here, that judicial appointments could be openly partisan political, and that political parties fight over and rub their hands with glee at the opportunity to stack the bench of the highest court in the land with people who are obviously and openly sympathetic to one side or another. How does that work? Is that how it's meant to be, or has it morphed over time?

There is a separation of powers, but the democrats think they can erode it and the constitution through the courts. The more constitutionalist that are on the court the further they get from achieving their goal. It's not about winning as it is about preserving the constitutional republic and constitutional rights that many of us hold dear.

RARiddell is right. The Democrats have taken a new direction in their efforts to make us more into their desired shape. Since they have been unable to pass many laws to achieve their ends they have taken to using the courts to get judges to rule to do the same things. Worse some areas of the country have such Liberal judges that they will ignore both law and constitution when it suits them. Only the Supreme Court can reverse them which is why this last fight was so heated. Rubber stamp or sanity check was the choices.

Today, everything is political, divisive or insulting to somebody, even going to the bathroom. One group demands transgender people the right to use what ever bathroom the want. And if a little girl sees a transgender male, who identifies as female, zipping up their pants and the penis is seen. That's OK. You also have the same group who are insulted if, when in college, a drunk person sees a penis. On the other side are people who want people to use the bathroom for their sex not their opinion of what sex they are. Now we have one state which is going to allow parents to pick which gender their child will be identified as. Male, female and other. Its just nuts right now.

The Democrats have dumped their older base of working class Americans. They now want unlimited, borderless illegal aliens allowed to enter the country. They want that vote and the vote of anyone else whose vote thy can buy with various social programs. Anyone who they can convince are being taken advantage of is their new base. As a result, they are morphing from liberal to socialist to Marxist and Communist. Unfortunately for them their former base is NOT socialist/Marxist and is going Republican. President Trump took advantage of that and won normally Democrat states like Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and others. The Democrats over several election periods have been losing more and more governorships, state houses, etc. The only way they can pass their disgusting agenda is through the courts. The Supreme Court is the final court. The last two court appointments replaced a conservative with conservative, and a moderate with a conservative. Of the 4 liberals left, one is extremely old and infirm, the other is a diabetic. The Dems are panicked that they could be replaced with conservatives. As a result they will say ANYTHING, do ANYTHING to get rid of Trump and any conservative justice. Things will get even more frantic when they lose more Senate seats this time and fail to take the House. They were counting on it as the Party in power usually loses seats in a non-presidential election year. They continue to believe their own polls even remembering how wrong the polls were last time. We have already seen an attempted assassination on Republican members of congress at a baseball game. Other Democrats have been calling for verbal and physical attacks on Congressional conservatives. Hillary and Waters have dome this. The Dem Mob will get more and more demented. When the Republicans keep power this election, any semblance of sanity on the Left's Mob will be gone. They are already attacking people with "Make America Great Again" hats and burning vehicles with pro Trump signs. The last time it was this bad was 50 years ago and both Bobby Kennedy and Martin Luther King were killed.

What the Dems have accomplished has been to DISGUST both reasonable Democrats and all Republicans. They forgot that many women have sons who they do not want attacked with lies by fanatic leftist women in the future.

I look forward to relaxing in my easy chair on election night, eating popcorn and chocolate chips while watching CNN or MSNBC cry over the Republicans holding on to power. Even now, they are blaming the Supreme Court, the Republicans and the evil US Constitution.

cadet, your views on the evolution of our Supreme Court are unfortunately somewhat correct. But if you pay a bit closer attention, you will note one very important distinction. Only one side of our generally two Party Political system reliably and consistently calls for "Originalists" or "Textualists" who will interpret the law in accordance with the Constitution and the original Intent of the Framers. That would be the Republicans.

Originalists such as Scalia or Thomas are despised by Democrats... to the extent that they will pull out all stops to derail their confirmation, as they did with Robert Bork, Clarence Thomas, and now Brett Kavanaugh. False accusations and personal destruction are considered fair play.

Democrats, and most especially Liberal Left Democrats, have been increasingly attempting to morph the Federal and Supreme Courts into their Progressive vision where the Constitution is viewed as a "Living Document" than can be twisted and reinterpreted in a manner inconsistent with obvious Original Intent of the Framers.

King Brown, who once again dishonestly pretends to abhor political discussions here, has argued many times that our U.S. Constitution is a so-called "Living Document"... subject to the whims of various Courts in different Jurisdictions. If he denies this fact, I would be happy to QUOTE him on the matter! What he won't tell you is that it has been his beloved Liberal Left Socialists who have strayed furthest from Original Intent and the Constitution as written. And infringements upon the gun rights of law abiding citizens by Liberal Left Democrats and their Judicial appointees are a prime example of this. I already have noted how Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein vehemently opposed Kavanaugh because of his strong pro-2nd Amendment views.

In this way, Liberal Democrats are able to accomplish things, such as Roe v. Wade, or gun control, that Congress was unwilling or Democrats were unable to do legislatively. Abortion should be a States Rights issue, at very least. And to be fair, politicization of the Court may extend to some Conservative over-reach too, such as surveillance of Americans under the Patriot Act. While this had not been really abused, and had been directed mainly toward foreign terrorists, the potential for abuse was demonstrated by Democrats who used phony documents to petition the FISA Court to spy on President Trump's campaign.
