I bought this rifle at auction after I placed a low ball bid and was surprised to find I had won. It was retailed by Simson but when it arrived I was quite pleased to find that the actual maker was JJ Reeb. I have had one gun by Mr. Reeb and one by his Son JJ Reeb Jr. through my shop over the years, both leaving an impression on me as the very high quality with with each were built. This 98 Mauser is no exception. The stock proportions are just perfect, diamond shaped grip, subtle refinements throughout show a well thought out sublime rifle. The scope appears to be original equipment, the engraving on the action has borders cut to match the scope bases, with the glass remaining clear. The mounts are see through and either the bolt mounted peep or the folding barrel sight can be utilized while the scope remains in place. I believe the folding sight was added at the time of the peep sight due to it very slightly cutting into the script on the barrel. I had to do some very minor restoration work on the rifle but it essentially remains in original condition, well used but un-abused. This one has really grown on me. SKB, Good show, you got a nice one, what caliber is it? Did you mean "Simpson" or "Simson"? Mike

I think it's interesting too, Steve. I was strolling through a show recently and saw a Haenel M-88 barreled action. I refused to take a closer look because I really wanted too, but it looked complete and in decent shape from a distance. Though it wasn't a '98, it reminded me of your pictures, and I was imagining an open sight fun rifle. Thanks for showing it.

It does have a certain look that I like. Never been much of a bolt action rifle guy, but there are some (like yours) that are very appealing.
