Drew, I agree that the church should be the conscience of the state, and if so it ought to oppose Trump at every turn. He has no conscience. He only has his ego. He is a con man. I didn't make any claim to knowing Jesus' political preference. I only know that he would have nothing to do with Donald Trump.

Canvasback, The way I see it Clinton is a smarter, better educated,more widely experienced, better-spoken version of Donald Trump. Morally there's nothing to choose between them. Stan, I have a hard time with the abortion issue. But I do believe there are situations where it's better than the alternatives. I had students who had to make that choice. They didn't seek advice from me but told me about their struggle with it afterward. I felt most made the best decision for themselves. Some went one way, some the other. I think there's some truth to the observation that many politicians care more for children before they're born than afterwards. Craig, a short factual list of Obama's achievements would include saving the American automobile industry, pulling the country out of the Great Recession and restarting the economy, and providing health insurance to millions of people. I know Obamacare is not popular with Republicans, but it isn't the failure they portray it as, and they can't come up with a workable alternative. He also strengthened America's ties with our allies around the globe. Given the issues he inherited and the resistance he drew for being black. I think his presidency was significantly successful, particularly in contrast to his predecessor. OMG, this is funny. Saving the auto industry? Pulling the country out of the Great Recession? Strengthening ties with allies?......knee slappers all!

A nominee for the SC has no immunity from investigation and should welcome the chance to prove the accusations false. Kavanaugh's right to privacy is subordinate to the country's right to know that he is fit for a lifetime appointment. Ford is clearly not politically motivated. That she's been used is clear but doesn't make her a liar. No one except Kavanaugh and his accuser can possibly know who is telling the truth. Democrats didn't invent this accusation. Now there is another one. Wouldn't it make more sense to hear the testimony before concluding who's telling the truth? We have one sexual offender on the court already. We have another sexual predator nominating Kavanaugh. Let's try to get the facts ( not the alternative facts) before we take sides.

When you start looking for politicians saying/ doing stupid stuff, there always enough to go around. Democrats don't have an exclusive franchise on error. What is most wrong with our society today has almost nothing to do with parties; it's the corruption of public discourse by social media and the power of dark money to fan ill will through fear and intimidation. We see the results here and often.

Can we take it someplace else please. There are plenty of places on the net for such discussions if that is what you are looking for. There are very few places for discussion of classic rifles. Lets try to keep this one. Adults do not have to agree with someones politics to have an enjoyable discussion about classic rifles with them.
