Recently I aquired a JP Sauer made in Eckernforde it is identical to this one https://www.gunsinternational.com/guns-f...un_id=100987392 Model 8 DES ? The former owner lengthened the stock by adding a spacer and a 1 recoil pad. The stock still measures 13 7/8 to the wood, I am going to remove spacer and pad a put a buttplate on it. N C Ordnance has 3 plates that will work but I don't know which one is correct. #B496 has a round SS logo, original sauer, made in Germany; B497 has a round SS logo; B498 has an oval ss logo, ss is fancy letters; which is correct?

I learn something every day, and a lot of times it's that what I learned the day before was wrong

You might find your answer within one of these Sauer websites:

An Eckernforde Sauer would be post war, so any Suhl type butt plate would be incorrect. The post war Sauers are very good hunting guns and often more fitting current American taste in style and caliber, but are not as "collectable" as pre war Suhl drillings. Consequently, you won't hurt your drilling, regardless of which one you choose. You might contact Larry Schuknecht at Dutchman Wood Works ( Shoptalk@ dutchmanwoodworks.com) as a source.
