Interesting rechamber but I don't understand why it went so high. Any thoughts?

No idea why, but appears that once it passed $600 it was two guys in a bidding war. Sure doesn't seem like something I'd pay over the $600 price for.

Maybe it's original? I'll check my Springfield Research lists, but there are many numbers that are not on the lists.

I would be very surprised at that. Far from any sort of expert, let alone '03's, but the caliber stamping looks pretty amateur to my eyes. Unless it was done much later I suppose.

US Army didn't do much experimenting with calibers. Guessing it's two guys just not able to stop the bidding war.

I don't think the 'scant' style stock is original to the Remington 03 as they were produced.
Stock has no cartouch per auction and looks refinished to me.

The 03 shares bbl thread and shank specs with the Newton rifle. IIRC, Newton would rebbl your (Newton?) rifle w/a surplus 03 bbl and re-chamber for 30Newton.
Maybe a bbl from them and put on the rifle here.
Rem Mod 03 bbl dates would only be of a couple yrs before switching to 03A3 style (43?).
It's a big round with a .525 base dia. Takes some bolt face
& extractor alteration as well as magazine and feed rail work to get it to work.

Well,,it does come from the highly regarded collection vault of CDNN,,maybe that's where the value is.

Just some thoughts.
I can't really see 3K for it.
Maybe Ike's teeth marks are on the other side of the rear sight sleeve from the caliber marking.

Not sure what happened in the original auction, but the rifle is back up for sale. No negative feedback given for the high bid either.

Take the high bidder out and the underbidder will only have to go to $700 to pass #3.

My problem lies in reconciling my gross habits with my net income.

Actually you have to take the next highest bidder out to allow the winner to get it for $700. He was high then, and #2 pushed it up and caused it to reach the end price.
