So, I own only one SxS shotgun but I read the shotgun section of this forum fairly regularly. I am particularly interested in the evaluation, repair and maintenance of those arms because I'm kind of a 'gear head' at heart. (Mixed metaphor?) Anyway, would the repair and evaluation of any break-open gun, rifle or shotgun, be essentially the same? I am asking specifically about looseness, being on face, shimming the hook to tighten, etc. In other words, can I take the advice and methods presented in the SxS section and apply them to a Savage 219 for example?

Thanks for your thoughts.

No question is ever dumb, that is how folks learn things!!
Sit back pour yourself something in a glass or a mug. Then off you go to YouTube search for Jack Rowe Master Gunsmith and just watch all he has to offer! It will take some time.
Yes he is a Brit working on guns from past decades but what he has to say is still worth taking notice of, with a little make do and mend thrown in. He is now no longer with us, though he did explain things reasonably clearly.

The only lessons in my life I truly did learn from where the ones I paid for!

A must. Really superb material. Would have loved to have learned of him far early than I have.

A shame, but they'll probably pull those Jack Rowe Gunsmithing demonstration videos and other similar ones from the Y/Tube soon.
Included in the new guidelines are any instructional videos that show how to 'build a firearm'. They don't take effect till sometime in April;

I suspect that most of the censorship is done by artificial intelligence and not by a person actually seeing the video and noting who the gunsmith is and what he does in his videos,,they will go to the shredder.
We have to protect the children after all.

That would be a loss, definitely. Lots of knowledge, humor and wisdom from Mr. Rowe! Maybe they would be available through Midway USA.
