Does anyone here ever use one anymore? I know they've been out of production for many years, but I've got an old one that was given to me, with the bronze mesh worn out. I ordered some to replace it, just to get it back like new. I've never used one. Weren't they used primarily for scrubbing lead out of the bore?

That's what I used mine for and I think that's what they were designed for.

Thanks. I think they're a cool tool, designed to do a job that is no longer really a big issue due to plastic shot cups. Seems to me they would still be great for removing plastic residue or hard to dissolve powder residue that has been left for too long.
I found a new in the box 16 ga. one on eBay a few days ago and bought it. I may just need it one day.

The earlier ones had wooden pieces holding the screens, later ones were made of metal. They are very handy and still useful for what Stan posted. I Think Brownells was selling some newly made ones a few years back in their catalog.

One of the old do it your self gunsmithing books recommended replacing the screens with emery cloth to refinish pitted barrels. I tried it but didn't work too well.
I learn something every day, and a lot of times it's that what I learned the day before was wrong

I have a bunch, nib, old stock, in 16, 20, and a few 410s.If Any interest, I'll put a few on "for sale". I would also trade one of each for 3 12ga cleaners.

Never heard of them until this thread, but I'll be watching for them to go on sale here, if that is what VBD chooses to do...Geo
