Obsolescence of Manifesto 3.0 /blueprint - post 12/20/16 I have before me the march issue of the regional hunting magazine and it tells me that my blueprint has been outdated already when I wrote it and the reality is by far more advanced. The front page of this magazine features a mufflon ram with the sentence "In danger ?", followed by the editorial of the regional hunting Kapo and inside the magazine a long article on the wolf. In short, already in 2015 wolves have been seen in this Austrian wilderness of the army-training-area (Truppenübungsplatz) Allentsteig, with a rather strange behaviour, not shy, apparently familiar to encounters with human beings, a new subspecies of the genus "lupus" called in latin "lupus domesticus Austriacus". These seem to be reared and released animals... Up to now none of the holy animal protection folks declared ownership for this clandestine project. This area had a yearly mufflon bag of 150-200 , the bag in 2016 has been 20, no lambs at all. With a simple extrapolation this animal will be gone within 2 more years. The Kapo announced a study group to discuss all implications of this new situation. The article inside tells us that the mufflon is a non-indigenous animal - it came 200+ years from Corsica, since 50 years in this wilderness area, however the wolf has always been indigenous to Austria. What shameful defensive mess....

...Here is a short update from old Europe and the "first-world problems" it is creating/resolving... A. Austro wolf / Source: august issue of the regional hunting magazine The 2017-wolf-litter counts 6 nice little "Schäferhund"-alike non-herbivorous animals, increasing the wolf-population in this army-training-area to a total of 11. (The vociferous WWF told it's not him who introduced them there...) Their daily bag is 1,5 red dear calves , makes 550 per year or its meat equivalent of grown up red dear stags/hinds. There is already a court case between the district authority and the army ecologists how to count this wolf-bag against the agreed upon hunting quota....
B. Regional hunting law amendments The eastern province got now an amendment and it sounds as if other neighbouring provinces are to follow domino-like. (NB:This province has a reddie/bluie government). The core of the amendment is that "Gatter-Jagden" (i.e. game kept in enclosures surrounded by a fence or a wall) will have to cease by 2023, up to then stringent controls. The largest such Gatter/Tiergarten in Europe - about 1200 ha - lies in this province. Founded by the head of an aristo-clan in 1756 - he was "Palatin" /i.e. emperor-deputy there . The last head of this family died without issue. The control of the Austrian properties belonging to this family went to the nephew of the late princess, she was a former Budapest opera ballerina.( All of the Hungarian estates/ properties were confiscated/expropriated by the commies in 1948.) This chap is a Hungaro-Swiss banker and immediately started to rejunenate the vast economic empire ... AND kicked out the local government from their feudal residence in the princely palace. An insider told me that the new law amendment is simply the retaliation of the regional governor - by learned profession a gymteacher in basic school - for being kicked out from the feudal palace office residence. A warm wellcome to this Hungarian Asterix and I am keen to see their next round .... Felix Neuberger

Austria's greenies are gone. What started 30+ years ago as a broad oecology-movement ended in a disaster. They did not get the min 4 % in the oct 15 election. DE MORTUIS NIHIL NISI BENE. R.I.P. No harbouring anymore for the anti-hunt/gun apostles/fraternity. Felix Neuberger

Hmm, thought I had posted this two days ago. Oh well....was rather intenet challenged while afield chasing ruffed grouse.
Well done Felix. Congratulations to Austria. The Greens here in Canada are a ridiculous, policy contradictory amalgamation of know-nothings with an anti-Semitic streak a mile wide. Luckily they have gained little traction so far.

The brexit-country gave to the world long time ago Isaac Newton James Cook Charles Darwin James Watt Joseph Whitworth Frederic Beesley John Robertson and many more of world-class explorers, scientists, engineers. This once glorious country is blessed now with HER-IMPERIAL-MAJESTY hunt-hiding Lisbeth-queen and HIS-IMPERIAL-HIGHNESS hunt-hiding Charlie-prince. Both featuring in the paradise-papers. Not amusing, rather disgusting from these sacrosanct IMPERIALS. Felix Neuberger

A Non-Orwellian story.. There is a book by Louis Graf Karolyi "Waidwerk ohne gleichen", which translates to "Hunting unequalled", 4th issue by 1992, Isbn 3-925456-21-X. The internet platform zvab.com (abbreviation for "Zentral- Verzeichnis antiker Bücher, i.e. central inventory of antique books) has about a dozen on offer for a couple of Euro. Page 124 ff of this book has the story on "Small game in Totmegyer". Totmegyer is the Hungarian name for a small town in todays Slovakia, the Slovakian name is Palarikovo. Its about 55 km east of the Slovakian capial of Bratislava. What makes this so special ? Totmegyer has been THE Central Enropean hotspot for small game between the wars, coveted by all the top-shots of this period to get an invitation there. It has been only wild game, no reared ones. It did not happen by accident as a gift of nature, it was all built up by this count Karolyi, the scion of an old Hungarian aristo clan. He inherited from his father an estate with ca 11000 ha and rented an area of same size from the neighbouring local farmers for hunting rights. He invested and gradually implemented a very well managed hunting enterprise, with about 2 dozens of gamekeepers, with a bonus/premium system for them, ensuring them a lifelong employment. What amazes me is the figure of animals-of-prey "bagged" by his gamekeepers, all well documented. This could be up to 10000 per year, of which poaching dogs alone would make 800 with a high premium paid for them. The total figure for these animals-of-prey for the years 1930 to 1937 has been 56165, for each and every one a premium paid. The total bag of "Nutzwild"(harvest-animals / hares, pheasants, partridges) for the same period has been 226571, the yearly bag on average 20000 to 37000. The gamekeepers had a bonus on the harvest-animals. So the ratio of 1 prey-animal to 4 harvest-animals. When looking on the list of prey-animals you will understand why I called this a non-Orwellian story. Its all protected animals today , even a poaching dog killed outside any village-area is a matter of hysteric media coverage nowadays. Is has not been a economical win/win situation, in good years the income equalled the expenses, after strong winters no hunting at all. It all came to an end when he fled the country end of WW II and - if I remember well an English "Shooting times" article - finally settled in UK and passed away there in 1965. Felix Neuberger

Felix,
first I wish you a happy new year! My wife donated a book to me on Christmas written by Klaus Neuberger: "Tolle Zeiten & Grosse Jäger" Volume I, there are Vol. II and three as well. Is it a relative of you...?
Thanks and kind regards, Gunwolf

To Gunwolf, thanks for the wishes and a "Prosit 2018" to you and yours. Klaus Neuberger is not a relative of mine (at least not in the ancestral line back to 1803). He is a man of the PR/AD business side of life, have hunted with him in Hungary, meet him occasionaly in the nearby shooting club, he knows god and the world of the Austro-Hunting-scene and undertook this gigantic exercise to document this unkwnown part of Austria's life in a three-part-trilogy. He deserves all the merits for his undertaking. In contrast to my Asterix-cynicism he uses a very kind and subtle language. Weidmannsheil Felix Neuberger

Thanks Felix!
I really love this book and I hope, my wife will present me the other two... ;-) Here a time was described which has finally passed. I remember myself the last breathes some 45 years ago and it's a great pleasure to get more and deeper informations about those time of happy and plenty hunting.
By the way, I also like your "Asterix-cynicism", because I'm not free of it myself.. :-))
