Found a nice 20 gauge Flues with a stock that a home "carpenter" tried to repair - I can restock it with no problem but the top tang screw was replaced with a common wood screw.

Anyone know of a source for one that will work and look nice? Numrich/e-gunparts lists them but they are sold out.

Thanks

Eric,

The top tang screw on the Flues is more or less a common
wood screw. It had more threads per inch than a household
screw but a wood screw nonetheless. Any decent gunsmith familiar
with the model can make you a suitable replacement out of a
wood screw with an oversize head. The threads won't be exactly
the same but no one will see them anyway. Feel free to e-mail me
and I can talk you through doing it yourself or otherwise point
you in the right direction.

Eric,
Galazan sells $2 wood screws for guns.
Including some with extra tall heads so you cut your own slot that's aligned north south.

Yep, wood screw except in the case of the SBTs. "Engraving" a clock dial on a screw head is pretty easy if all you want it to do is modestly blend with what's still there. Yacht slots are a bit harder as is getting a replacement absolutely flush to the tang.

Thanks for the info - hadn't even thought of using an oversized screw and fitting it. Should be easy to chuck in a drill motor and turn one down to fit. Thanks again
