Wrap the barrels in HDPE tubes obtained from Lowe's or Home Depot and used for insulating pipe - that is some of the strongest crush resistant foam available. Then pack in bubble wrap and use packing peanuts to fill any voids in a double walled box.

Ed:

here in Houston we have what are called box stores. They sell boxes, jiffy bags, kraft paper, tape.etc. Not sure where you live but maybe look on line. I would not recommend shipping the gun and barrels in the case. I have had in the past folks shipping in the cases to be the dividers in the case broke.

Uline is a good soure and I buy from them. They are more for a larger user as you buy min 25 boxes at a time.

If you can scrounge a big old box from some appliance store you should be set if its big enough.Just use the case to mark out the front , back , n sides, score the cardboard n bend...leave extra at each end for the ends.
If you want protection in between, some glued flat slabs of 1" or so polystyrene here n there would give it some space ? ( but allow for it when measuring cardboard )..or wrap it in some carpet scraps?

This^^^. I have done it many, many times. Buy a roll of the P.O. approved wettable tape with the fiber reinforcement to do the final taping. Build it with plastic tape, but finish and cover everything up with the wettable tape. Makes for a better finished product the P.O. will accept.

I have also made wooden cases ,as Gunmaker mentions (Frame of 2"x1" with 1/4" plywood screwed on. can get heavy (expensive), but it is better protection. But that might be overkill...Abe Chaber thought it was, when he had to take out all the dozens of screws I had in it smile ,but it got there n back...safe n sound
