I'm sure these guns have been discussed here before but a search didn't reveal anything recent enough to be listed. Of course my search function was blocked after one try. I'm considering ordering a 30" 12b. Are these still a Siace that is put together and finished in Sturgis? Has anyone dealt with Dakota recently? I would be interested in hearing experience and impressions that anyone has with the gun or the company. Thanks.

A friend of mine purchased a 28 ga Dakota last fall and he seemed to like it. I handled it, but never shot it. It had really nice looking wood and I believe they are hand engraved. I tried to contact them about 6 months ago when I was considering a new 20 ga. My interest was that they did custom stock dimensions, but I never heard back from them. I am not sure how they are doing financially.

Their financial condition and the possibility of not receiving an ordered gun and loosing a deposit is one of my concerns.

Bob: All I have heard is rumors. I would check with a reputable distributor of the Dakota Arms weapons and see what they have to say. Because I could not get a firm read on their financial condition I took a pass and purchased a used English 16 ga. It was lighter in weight and simply felt better balanced to me. Mike

I thought they were definitely out of business. Maybe somebody came to their rescue?
I don't have an informed opinion about the shotguns, but they made some very good rifles.

Siace was the maker and finished the guns, Dakota imported them with the "Dakota" name on them. Siace and Dakota no longer have a relationship but you can still get the same gun with the Siace name on it. http://www.siacearmi.com/index_uk.htm

Based on my examination of a number of samples and talking with a couple of Siace dealers, including a representative of Dakota, I'd be leary of buying a Siace gun. They seem to have serious problems with maintaining a consistent level of quality. The Dakota rep I spoke with said that they'd shipped a large number of Siace guns back on several occasions for QC issues and even with that experience, still had problems with Siace getting it right from time to time.
If you have your heart set on one, pick a large, well established dealer with a great reputation who will stand behind the gun, including taking a return if it turns out to be one of those which Siace didn't do well. Otherwise, look at something else.
