I am trying to cobble together a Lyman 35 sight from various
parts that I've picked up here and there. I need to take
apart the elevation adjustment on the sight below. Has anyone
done this before? And if so how do you do it? I've got access
to a milling machine and a lathe so if I need to make a specialized
tool, I should be able to do so.

PDoc,
Since you didn't get a response from someone that might actually know something and since I'm logged in I'll throw out my maybe useless idea.

The two opposing holes on the face of the knob can't be decoration. I can't tell whether there is threading on the inner part of the knob but it appears that there might be a spanner nut that screws into the recess of the knob to lock the assembly into place.

I'd make a spanner and see if something can be turned out. Don't forget the long soak in something to loosen any crud first.

Hi Dennis

I think you are right about that. I am going to wait
a week or so to see if anyone else has any thoughts or experiences to share and then give that a try.

Well, in the last two weeks or so, I decided to try making my own
elevation assembly.

For some background information, about a year or so, I won a partially
completed Lyman 35 base in a parts grouping on ebay. A number of
machining steps remained to do on the base, and there was no slide or any other parts with it. About two months about, a member of the forum
kindly sent a Lyman 35 base to study. I was able to complete the remaining machining steps on my base and then start work on the other parts. I didn't want to try to make an exact copy.

Here are pictures of the progress so far.
