According to the Semmer book there were about 40,000 floating around. Does anyone have any idea how many those might have been 16 ga. B grade ejectors with Remington or Ordinance steel? Just trying to figure out if this is a grail thing or just a tough quest. Thanks, Mark

I've seen maybe four 16 be grades. 2/2 Damascus to steel but one of the Steel might have been Damascus that had been blued. I've seen a lot of Remington's which are blued Damascus. Not that many 16s to start with. More Damascus than steel. If it were d or higher I'd tell you to run back to get it. As a BE I'd buy it if it is in good shape, not buggered up, barrels good. The usual tire kicking list. Also check the ejectors. By now one spring or both could be weak or broken.

What you don't want is a project 1894 to dump money in. I like them a lot but they do tend to be solid or heavy to some. I quickly decided to not carry a 12 BE I had when I had better fitting Foxes at about a pound and half less.

I'd buy it. If you don't, I'd appreciate a heads up as to location.

Jon, I have two BE 12 gauges that are within 2 ounces of my 12 gauge Foxes. All have 30 inch barrels. The Remington's are Damascus.

Remington's are all over the place on weights. I have several which are much heavier than my Fox doubles. I saw a 12 several years ago which had to be in the 6 1/4- 6 1/2 pound range. That is one that I wish I had picked up. It was very nice. Some of the barrels are fairly thick and some have been made much thinner and lighter.

Both of my 28-inch steel barrel 16-gauge Remingtons weigh right at 7 pounds. In all my years of looking at and recording Remington Hammerless Doubles, all the B-/BE-/BEO-Grades I've recorded are 10- and 12-gauges.

Does Mr. Deem, who has taken up the baton of writing about Remington Hammerless Doubles in The Double Gun Journal post here? I have a tiny nit to pick about his recent article on the 16-gauge KED-Grade with the DeLong single trigger. At the top of page 51 he eludes to the gun being targeted with 1 1/8 ounces of shot. In all of our ammunition company catalogs I've reviewed from the years the Remington Hammerless Doubles were produced, show 16-gauge shells only being offered with 7/8 or 1 ounce of shot. I don't know of 1 1/8 ounce 16-gauge loads being offered until the introduction of Western Cartridge Co.'s 16-gauge Super-X load circa 1923. I am eagerly looking for a hang-tag from a 16-gauge (and a 10-gauge) Remington Hammerless Double to see what load they were targeted with.

The original description is what I'd be like a duck on a june bug over. I just didn't want to go questing after something I'll never have a prayer of finding. I very much appreciate all the help you guys give. Thanks

I have two 16 GA 1894's. One is a BE and the other is a CEO. The BE weighs 6 pounds 6.6 ounces and it has 27" barrels. The tubes do touch at the muzzle so I am not sure if they were cut or not. The CEO has 28" barrels and weighs 6 pounds 9.5 ounces. I had Briley fit a set of 28 GA tubes to the BE and it weighs 7 pounds 1.1 ounce with tubes in place. The BE has been blued sometime in the past and the CEO was apparently modified to a straight grip sometime in the past as the grip iron is made up of 2 pieces expertly joined together.
