Cabela's has a Winchester Model 21 deluxe trap, 5700917, $5999.99. Real nice looking, but I noticed the beavertail does not have that piece of elm inletted about 4 inches forward of where the forearm latch is. The book on the 21 talks about this as being a means of helping to reduce the effects recoil and helping to reduce the chance of the beavertail cracking or splitting. Is this a requirement?

It is buried in front of the ejectors on early models.

Shows $6999. That gun has probably been through it. JR

That gun isn't too bad. Used gun for sure, but other than being too short for me I wouldn't be too embarrassed to be seen shooting it.
It would be a fun trap gun!
It would restore to like new easily if that's what you want.

It appears to me that the wood and the metal are different ages. Winchester phased in that steel grip cap circa 1953-4. The Deluxe Grade was only cataloged circa 1946 to 1950. It had reverted to the Custom Built Grade by the January 2, 1952, Winchester catalog. Wonder what Cody has to say?

Yeah, I didn't want to run it down too bad earlier, but that gun just looks wrong on many different levels. I would pass at a lot less than they are asking. JR
