A beautiful Sedgley but the seller is confused about the receiver.
It is built on a 1903 receiver with a 1903 bolt. There is nothing about it that is related to an M2 rifle except maybe the barrel.

Now how did I miss that? confused

Very nice, I can't believe he built very many Hornets on shortened 03's. All the Sedgleys I have seen have been on full length 03 actions. As Hershel mentioned, this is a shortened 03, not 1922.

Fred and I had been watching this auction and I felt the starting price was a bit high in todays market with the bent bolt and D&T, anyone else's thoughts on the price? I have Sedegleys in Hornet, in Mannlicher and in short action but the combination of all 3 would be nice.

The barrel is marked .22 W.C.F. above Hornet. I have read that .22 W.C.F. is the predecessor of the Hornet. Can anyone explain the difference between the two.

Herschel,
The .22WCF was a black powder cartridge, chambered in the typical rifles of the day. The first 22 Hornets were high pressure, smokeless powder cartridges, in strong actions; and loaded in .22WCF cases. When they started to load 22 Hornet on a commercial basis, they thickened the rims, to insure their ammo couldn't be fired in the old rifles. I guess lawyers in those days were pretty much like the ones today. The Germans were not as afraid of lawsuits( their proof laws offered good protection) so when they hot loaded the .22WCF, they didn't thicken the rims. They called this cartridge 5.6x35R Vierling. The Hornet was listed as 5.6x36R Hornet( note the "6") but was usually just called the Hornet.
