Friend asked me if the finish on a Huglu is a hard chrome finish or just polished brightly. I can't remember what finish they came with anymore. A small bore has caught his eye but that shines chrome bumper finish is too gaudy for him. Don't know if it could be toned down to a satin finish or if polished even blued over.

They sure are too bright unless you are wearing sunglasses. Sometimes more marketing research needs to be done before products are made. Like surface finish choices or high gloss stock finish or oil satin finish. It makes a huge difference in how a gun sells.

Is there any way that you can convince your friend to find a nice Lindner Daly instead of "wondering" about the finish on a Huglu?

Eightbore I don't need anymore competition in the Lindner department. He wants a 28-30" smallbore in 20-28 and found one for a grand new in box. I told him to buy it and forget about the finish issues for that price. You'll never find a Lindner small bore with 30" barrels for a grand. If I do I'll buy two of them and hold one for a friend. smile

I know the barrels are black chrome and from limited research have come to the conclusion it is hard chrome plated for that nice bright durable finish on the rest of the gun . Don't know if their are ways to cut the shine or if he just needs to take it as is or keep looking.

I just got a Dickinson 20ga with 30" barrels last week for $1,360 on sale and with coupons. I think that price difference is worth it, though the metal finish on the huglu guns don't really offend me.

I realize that waiting for another one of those deals takes a bit of wishin' and hoping, especially since the price on those things seem to go up annually.

I have just had a set of Huglu barrels in for rust black, the guy has cleaned the old black off not realising they were black chrome finished.

Was it fun getting the black chrome off? I know gunsmiths who hate with a passion any bore with chrome in them. I do know that chrome finishes come in several flavors and hardness so maybe black chrome is not a dogs breakfast to clean up.

Chromed bores don't bother Mike Orlen. I talked with him about them recently and he said they are no problem for him when it comes to lengthening forcing cones, etc. I was concerned about their peeling off, if he lengthened the cones on a couple .410s of mine. He said that would not happen, as properly chromed bores become a part of the base metal, not a "liner" that could peel off.

I'm going to be sending him my Dickinson .410, after Don spins it at the Southern.
