Stan, are you going to bring your Dickinson .410 for spinning?
I plan to test MOI in the lunch room of the main building Saturday afternoon. Stop by and bring your favorite gun.

Not me- want to bring some of my Smiths to shoot, and my Martin HD-35 for the Bluegrass events, but Not this year. Mae and I are leaving Naples for home about the time you lads are smashing those pesky orange clay discs. All kinds of sea gulls and pigeons around the open fishing piers here on the Gulf Coast side- got a good tan and caught and gave away a few sheepshed (sic) maybe sheep=shead? whatever, and two jack mackerel==hope for rain and that the snow birds have already left and I-75 is not plugged up with bumper to bumper traffic going North- good luck and good shootin' to all- wish I could have a afternoon with my favorite 12 grade 2E and a flat of RST no. 8's- never seen some many pigeons, and they have little fear of man-but that ain't gonna happen, but hey, a guy can dream, can't he?

I'll be there with David Williams at the Team LC booth under the Parker/Smith tent by the "dove field" (five stand). Although I've met several members of this forum, I'd really enjoy the opportunity to met those members whose names and handles for which I've yet to the connection. I'll be very easy to find; I'll be the old guy with white hair and a limp, so please come by and say hello. Looking forward to seeing you all. Thanks, Tom Archer

I would like to meet as many of you as possible, but plan to shoot several events over the weekend. If you see a tall guy with a mostly grey beard riding about on an old camouflaged golf cart with two shotgun scabbards on it, stop me and say hello, please.

Those who are able, join me for a BBQ sandwich at the concession area at high noon on Saturday (4/29). Unless it is too hot, I'll be wearing plus fours and red stockings! Ordinarily this description would be unique (perhaps not so on this occasion).

Stan, Bring some of your spare Briley S-2 chokes. I am still waiting. And I will be helping at the Heritage table. I have some of Toby's stock to bring for McNab Fine Guns to sell. And For all you guys that want to meet folks, wear a name badge or get your vest embroidered. I just had my new vest done, large font. It cost $15. Please stop me and say hi. I'll be setting up on Thursday and breaking down Sunday with, hopefully with some winning rounds shot.

I hope all of you have a great time, I'm not going to be able to make it this year as my daughter graduates with honors that weekend. I haven't missed this shoot in a long time and will miss seeing all of the guys that I only see once a year but hopefully I'll see you guys next year. Don't forget to stop by Drake's Landing for some SXS shooting on Thursday and Friday morning, it's a great place nice people and fair prices. We started shooting there five years ago and now about 75 or so shooters go there and have fun shooting great targets and then go over to Deep River to shop and see people

Stan,
You need to find me and see the latest project gun. It is a H. Leue, Berlin, pre-1892 16 hammer gun. It is not like any 16 back action Jones lever hammer gun I've ever seen. It has 32" Damascus shotgun barrels (London Proof 2 3/4" nitro). It also has a set of 26" 16 ga Damascus RIFLE barrels (London Proof, 2 9/16" Black powder). The gun weighs in at 9 1/4 lbs with either barrel. Both barrels have the same SN. The shotgun barrels had dent raised. It was apparently reproofed prior to finishing the barrel work. The proof on both barrels is 2005. So, how many 9 1/4 lb 32" 16s could there be that also have rifle barrels? I'll walk it over to the German gun collectors for some ideas. The barrels need browning. I can do that. It is just so cool that I'll bring it along. I could shoot hammer 16. The gun is in proof. The only thing is it weighs only 1/4 lbs less than my Boswell 32" 10 ga. Maybe I'll go out and shoot 2 events at a time. No, I'd need a gun bearer.
Joe

I WILL find you and take a look at that. Sounds really cool. I do love 32" barreled 16s.
I looked over my S1 series Brileys and here's what I can let go:
1- lt.modified 2- Improved cylinder 3 -skeet 2-cylinder
I'll bring them all and you can be thinking about what you want.

In preparation for the Southern tomorrow, I'm going through my battery, trying to make a decision about parting with an old friend. I promised myself I would reduce my holdings by one as penance for a recent sinful acquisition. Now that it comes down to it, I am finding it hard to follow through with that rash vow made in a weak moment weeks ago! I must follow through...

I am resting from my second day spent at the southern. Shot 20 ga and 16ga today and will shoot 28 ga tomorrow. Brought along a non shooting friend that likes vintage sxs . He has gone over the edge! Has bought a Fox XE 20ga, a Parker VH 20 ga, and W C Scott 20 ga.! Says he has never seen so many doubles! I think he might be out of cash but still has his credit card? I have the possibility of a trade for a Merkel 301E 20 ga in the works! I am not looking forward to the drive back to western Illinois,14 hours on the road isn't fun anymore.

I've never been but am going tomorrow. Will bring some old pieces along just in case (William Ford chamberless 10 and a beautiful cased Greener), but mainly going just to see nice doubles for a change.

I went on Friday & left Saturday & had a great time. The hors de ouvres Friday evening was a nice touch. I've never seen so many Parkers in one place. CSMC was having a garage sale.

It was another tremendous event with who know how many visitors, and so much to see one would need to have been there to appreciate its magnitude. The LC Smith and Parker Collectors enjoyed another great exhibit and competition; and Team Parker managed to break a 4 loss skid by besting Team LC in the 14th annual Challenge shootout by 2 targets. Both teams again had attendees from "all over". Team LC greeted one member from Alaska and another from Canada; and both organizations had attendees from all over the continental US. I was privileged to me several individuals I'd "known" thru their posting and word of mouth forever, but had never had the chance to meet personally. The fellowship at the Southern and the Smith/Parker tent was amazing, and is a characteristic of this event that seems to get better with each passing year. I'd encourage anyone who's into double guns and who've never had a chance to attend this event to put it on his "bucket list"; it's an excellent experience that will always be remembered.

I attended my 1'st Spring Southern with my shooting partner Mike. We had a great time shooting and seeing the exhibitor's tents. Plenty of shells expended and I was pleased with my shooting on the main event course. ( How can one crush the 1'st four clays and miss the last 2?) Managed that on two stations! I enjoy pre-WWI doubles and added to my education with maker's, design and patent information by examining and discussing the various fine guns presented by the many exhibitor's. Resisted the temptation to purchase another double but could have done serious damage if I weakened just a tiny bit. My trip was made by meeting the gunsmith at Atkin, Grant & Lang. Alan was kind enough to explain the patent ejector's on my Grant. He took them down and gave them a light cleaning and reassembled them all the while explaining each step and what to be careful about. The still work very well at 123 years old but the springs are getting just a bit soft. I now can get replacement springs and put them back into top condition. This experience made my trip! A big thank you to Alan for taking the time to help me out.
