Your chambers are marked by the 16 in a circle, which indicates 65mm ( 2 1/2- 2 9/16"). If they are now 2 3/4"(70mm), they have been rechambered.

I am so glad McIntash didn't like German guns so wonderful guns like this are sleepers for a lot of people. Great find. Congrat's LGS has one of these also 16ga that condition wise looks like it came straight out of factory shipping box. It has all the werks: sling swivels, cheek piece and tight chokes. One thing about the old ones that unlike modern standard production Merkels when found in minty condition they are easy to use and service ie. one does not need to strain or break it open over bent knee. Not sure it's worth $1500 they're asking, but you get whole lot more than US made field grade L.C.Smith, Strerlingworth, Parker,..... Anyhow, I could never get past the looks so I chose another double shotgun.

I took it as part of a package deal for a Francotte 20ga I really wanted. I suspected the chambers have been lengthened but no worries for me, the walls are thick enough and it's a game gun.
Somewhere it lost it's sling swivels, the lower rib is plugged and there's a hole in the butt stock. The previous owner was a user and didn't care much for preservation, the stock was cracked and repaired. I like the basket weave horn butt plate though...

Very nice, and we have the same grip "cap". I purchased a Simson brochure and and Ivers Johnson Catalog. I guess these are model 73E (ejectors). It's interesting to compare the prices of the Simsons to the Foxes, when new and now. Like Mark II said, they're sleepers. However, I have a question for the Simson guys. I had a friend whose dog wouldn't eat meat on Friday, because it was catholic. Using that same thought process, is it okay to take my Simson hunting on Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kipper? Or, will the gun want to stay home on those days? Your opinions please.

The Simson family were good Jewish folks, but all of my Simson guns, plus my Merkels and other German guns, all converted to Christianity when they left Germany, and now they like to hunt whenever I do.
