I'm sorta looking at a M53 two barrel set and am curious as to what the general feeling is about that model? Nice looking gun certainly and I've had them recommended to me before but I really know nothing about them. Durability would be my central concern.
any thots?

AYA has made some decent guns, but you don't need our opinion, you are smart enough to decide for yourself.

Hey WtS, these are very good quality guns. If you want a lot of info, just Google AyA Model 53 and you'll get plenty of hits.

Good Luck!

With the relatively small volume of ammo we shoot in our guns today, this gun will last a lifetime of your heirs.

A classic A&D boxlock, faithfully reproduced from the British design, still handmade, and with modern materials. Affordable at the moment, but perhaps for not much longer. Significant price increases have all but shuttered production in Spain. If there is a knock on many of the 4/53s, it would be for barrel weight. And that is because of the steels (and thickness) used to account for the possibility of steel shot becoming mandatory.

I think he's asking about the M53 SLE.

I don't have any guns that are not used. Durability is an issue for me.

Yes - the 53 SLE

And, yes, I am smart enough to decide for myself. I was requesting data, not decisions.

I don't think durability would be an issue with this model gun. The 53 is the platform that AYA uses for the companies signature pigeon and fowling guns. Guns obviously made to be worked fairly hard and rough. The 53 is a robust "magnum" type action with sideclips and heavy duty bolting.

The AyA model 53 is usually built as a medium game gun (think driven birds, or a feather and fur gun). If thats the case with this gun durability should not be an issue. That said, remember that this is a custom built gun and was made to whatever specification the buyer felt best met his needs so pay attention to the weight overall, the barrel weight, and chokes to get some idea of what this specific gun was made for.

I believe youre thinking of the AyA model 56; thats the model mostly built as a heavy competition gun. The model 53 isnt usually an especially heavily built gun.
