Early this morning I caught an episode of Under Wild Skies on TV, with Tony Makris. This one really was enjoyable to me. Tony recounted how he and Ross Seyfried had, for many years, collaborated on the use of Paradox and Fauneta guns for big game. On this episode he took a Cape Buffalo with a Wesley Richards 20 ga. Fauneta, using a two piece bullet that, as I understood it, Seyfried had designed. They stalked to within 20 yards of the bull as he lay resting, then as the bull rose Makris executed a perfect nose-on brain shot with the "little" gun. The bull never took a step. He also took a few guinea fowl with shotshells.
There was a lot of background on the guns' history. Well done, IMO.

Stan, what channel were you using to watch my friend Tony Makris. "The Outdoor Channel" seems to be defunct, at least in MD.

have not seen that show in years-
my favorite episode was one where they were hunting warthog- and unfortunately wounded one-
they went into the brush to finish it off(and anyone who has been around any hog knows they can be dangerous) and the warthog appeared out of some tall grass a few feet away in a full charge. Tony Makris showed great reactions and dropped it literally at his feet
he calmly looked right and left at the trackers and the PH and asked if everyone was ok- when they all responded affirmatively, he took a noticeable deep long breath and said - can we go hunt birds lol

Tony is not only a great producer of outdoor shows, he also has a great sense of humor. He is also a great box bird pigeon shot. I wish he would invite me on a shoot in Africa. I am still looking for his latest shows.

Stan, I recently watched that episode as well. I can't argue with anything you wrote. The show was very well done. "Under Wild Skies" is one of the very few outdoor shows I find myself watching. They also ran an episode a couple months ago that focused on taking Jim Corbett's .275 Rigby back to India to visit a number of the locations, including Rudraprayag, where he used the gun to kill the man-eaters he wrote about. Still have both episodes on the DVR.
eightbore, the show airs on The Outdoor Channel here in PA.

Sorry to be so slow in responding, Bill. I was involved with a funeral all day today and just got home. I cut my satellite TV bill by $70/mo. recently by dropping a lot of channels, but I still get Outdoor Channel and Pursuit Channel, so it must have been the OC.
Tony has also hunted "next door" to me on Wade Plantation. I do not recall if he was hunting wild quail or deer. Those I spoke with who talked with him while he was here liked him a lot, thought him to be very down to earth and sincere.

Tony Makris is a member of our pigeon club and graces us with his presence on a fairly regular basis. He is positively "pro gun" and a real advocate of blood sports rights. Try to meet him if you get the opportunity.

Shoot! I missed that one. I can remember every Sunday watching the American sportsman while growing up, I still find myself humming their thyme song.
