Good day,

Here is a quick lesson on picture posting => http://www.doublegunshop.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=6339#Post6339

Also, no worries on your English; it's much better than my German!

Looking forward to seeing pictures.

Sounds like someone lengthened the chambers so they could shoot 2 3/4" shells.
Have you emailed Holland and asked for any records on the gun? That may shed some light. If barrels were added in 1976 I would have thought it would be 2 3/4" chambers.
None the less, it would only be an issue if you decide to sell and the person buying makes an issue out of it.
By the way, are you sure they measure 2 3/4"? I have a Purdey and a Boss that was made for the American market in the 20's and they were chambered 2 5/8". That way the English thought they could satisfy everybody.
Cheers, enjoy your Grandfathers gun. I am sure he is pleased you have so much interest in it.

Have you measured the barrels for wall thickness? if they measure fine shoot it and have a great time.
Lengthening chambers from 2 1/2" to 2 3/4" happens all the time. That does not make it unsafe to shoot.
In the UK that would make it out of proof and would have to go through re-proof for the new chamber length.
As long as wall thickness is OK you are fine. Enjoy

Unless you want to sell it in England, I wouldn't waste the money or risk the gun in a re-proof...Geo

Contact H&H in the UK and talk to them. They should be able to guide you.

Austria is a CIP member and Proof of Firearms is required just the same as in the U.K., as far as I am aware so, if altered would be an offence to sell. I suggest you contact your Proof House in Austria for advice and possible examination. https://www.bing.com/search?q=proof+hous...mp;qs=n&sk= This link may help. Good luck. Lagopus.....
